Claude and ChatGPT Prices in Malaysia (2026): Every Plan in RM

By JY Wong, Founder · BixTech · Updated 10 October 2026

Claude Pro costs US$20 a month, about RM 82 at today's rate, and ChatGPT Plus is listed at RM 99 a month in Malaysia with tax included. ChatGPT Go is RM 24. Claude Max is US$100 or US$200 a month, which is RM 409 or RM 818. The API is priced per million tokens and, for a business process, is usually cheaper than a seat.

Every figure on this page was read from the vendor pages and Malaysian press coverage on 10 October 2026, and the ringgit column uses the Bank Negara Malaysia reference rate of RM 4.09 per US dollar from the day before. We run Claude and GPT models in production, in our own product OMNE+ and in the automations we build for clients, so the last sections say what a Malaysian SME actually spends, not just what the price list says.

Claude plans in RM

Anthropic bills Malaysians in US dollars. There is no ringgit price list, so the RM column below is a conversion, and your bank's foreign-transaction margin of 1 to 3 percent sits on top of it.

ChatGPT plans in RM

OpenAI does the opposite of Anthropic: it lists ringgit prices for Malaysia, and the launch coverage in October 2025 described them as inclusive of SST. That is why ChatGPT Plus is RM 99 here while its US list price of US$20 converts to RM 82.

Which plan should a Malaysian SME actually pay for?

For one person, Claude Pro and ChatGPT Plus cost the same in US dollars, and the only ringgit difference is tax and conversion. Pick on the work, not the price. Claude is the stronger choice for long documents, code and agent-style tasks; ChatGPT has the broader consumer feature set and the cheaper RM 24 entry plan.

For a team, count the seats before you count the features. Five Claude Team Standard seats are US$125 a month, about RM 511, and five ChatGPT Business seats are the same. Past three or four seats the subscription bill is usually larger than the API bill for the automation the team actually wanted, which is the point of the next section.

API pricing: what Claude and GPT cost per million tokens

A subscription buys a person a chat window. The API is what a chatbot, a quotation automation or a document reader runs on, and it bills per token with no monthly fee. One million tokens is roughly 750,000 words of English, or about 2,500 WhatsApp conversations' worth of input.

Model Input, US$ per 1M tokens Output, US$ per 1M tokens Note
Claude Opus 5.5
Anthropic
US$4 US$20 Flagship for hard reasoning and long agent runs.
Claude Sonnet 5.5
Anthropic
US$2 US$10 The default for chatbots and workflow automation.
Claude Haiku 5.5
Anthropic
US$0.1 US$0.5 Classification, extraction and routing. Prompts up to 100,000 tokens.
Claude Fable 5.1
Anthropic
US$10 US$50 The top tier. Rarely needed for SME automation.
gpt-6-astra
OpenAI
US$10 US$50 OpenAI flagship.
gpt-6.1-sol
OpenAI
US$2 US$10 The mid tier, comparable to Sonnet.
gpt-5.5
OpenAI
US$5 US$30 Previous flagship, still listed.
gpt-5.4-mini
OpenAI
US$0.75 US$4.5 Small model for high-volume tasks.
gpt-6-luna
OpenAI
US$0.1 US$0.5 Cheapest current tier, comparable to Haiku.

Sources: the Anthropic and OpenAI API pricing pages, read 10 October 2026. Both vendors give 50 percent off through their batch endpoints, and both charge about a tenth of the input price for cached prompt text. Haiku 5.5 is US$0.50 in and US$2.50 out for prompts above 100,000 tokens.

A worked example, from our own deployments

A WhatsApp customer-service bot for a Malaysian SME handles about 3,000 conversations a month. Each one sends the model around 2,000 tokens of instructions, history and knowledge, and gets back around 300. That is 6 million input tokens and 0.9 million output tokens a month.

  • On Claude Sonnet 5.5: US$12 in plus US$9 out, about US$21, or RM 86 a month.
  • On Claude Haiku 5.5 for the routine replies: about US$1, under RM 4 a month.
  • On gpt-6.1-sol: the same US$21, because the rates match Sonnet.

That is what we see in practice. Across the automations we run, the API line for an SME chatbot or a document workflow sits between RM 50 and RM 400 a month, and the build, the integrations and the checking logic cost far more than the tokens. An AI bill only grows past RM 1,000 a month when the volume is in the tens of thousands of conversations or the model is reading long documents on every request. The AI cost calculator lets you put your own volumes in.

For developers: Claude Code, Max and the API

Claude Code is included in every paid Claude plan, and the plan sets the cap. On Pro (RM 82 a month) it shares the Pro usage pool and runs out in an afternoon of serious work. Max 5x (RM 409) and Max 20x (RM 818) exist for that reason, and Team Premium seats (RM 511) are the same idea for a company. The alternative is an API key: Claude Code then bills per token at the Sonnet or Opus rates above, with no monthly minimum, which is cheaper for occasional use and more expensive than Max once you use it daily. Our own rule is Pro to try it, Max once it is your main tool, API for anything that runs unattended in CI.

The comparable coding subscriptions, at US list prices on 10 October 2026: GitHub Copilot Pro is US$10 a month (RM 41) and Pro+ is US$39 (RM 160); Cursor Pro is US$20 (RM 82), Pro+ US$60 (RM 245) and Ultra US$200 (RM 818); and OpenAI's Codex is bundled into ChatGPT Plus and Pro rather than sold separately. All three are billed in US dollars from Malaysia, and the same SST and card notes below apply.

Tax, cards and how to pay from Malaysia

The 8 percent. Malaysia charges service tax on imported digital services at 8 percent, up from 6 percent on 1 March 2024. A foreign provider that sells more than RM 500,000 a year to Malaysians must register with Customs and charge it on the invoice. OpenAI's ringgit prices are shown tax inclusive. Anthropic bills in US dollars, and Malaysian press coverage reports the 8 percent added on top; check your first receipt, because the subscription page will not show it. A business cannot claim this tax back as an input credit, so it is a cost, not a pass-through.

Cards. A Visa or Mastercard credit card from any Malaysian bank works. A debit card usually works too, but most Malaysian banks ship it with online and overseas transactions switched off, and the first attempt is declined until you turn that on in the banking app. The charge arrives in ringgit at your bank's rate, which is normally 1 to 3 percent worse than the Bank Negara rate used on this page.

App stores. Both apps can be bought through the App Store and Google Play in ringgit. Anthropic's help centre says mobile prices can differ from the web price, and in our experience they are higher, so subscribe on the website and sign in on the phone.

Invoices and tax ID. Team, Business and API accounts can carry a company name and tax ID on the invoice, which your accountant will want for the SST entry. Add it in the billing settings before the first charge; invoices already issued are not reissued.

Students. Anthropic lists no individual student discount on Claude Pro. Claude for Education is an institution-wide programme that a university joins, not something a student buys. Neither vendor lists a standing student price for Malaysia on 10 October 2026; if a coupon site offers one, treat it as unofficial.

What would this cost to run inside your business?

The seat prices above answer "what does it cost me to use Claude or ChatGPT". The question most SME owners actually have is "what would it cost to have AI answer my WhatsApp, read my invoices or draft my quotations", and that is an API question plus a build question. The calculator gives you the token side for your own volumes in a minute. For the build side, a first automation on a fixed scope starts from RM 1,000 on our process automation page, and a 30-minute call is enough to tell you which of your processes would repay it.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Claude Pro in Malaysia?

Claude Pro costs US$20 a month, which is about RM 82 at the Bank Negara rate of RM 4.09 on 10 October 2026. Paid yearly it is US$17 a month, billed as US$200 up front, about RM 818. Anthropic bills in US dollars, so your bank converts the charge and may add 8% SST and a foreign-transaction margin on top.

How much is Claude Max in Malaysia?

Claude Max has two tiers. Max 5x is US$100 a month, about RM 409, and Max 20x is US$200 a month, about RM 818. Both are monthly billing only, and both include Claude Code with 5 or 20 times the usage of Pro.

Berapa harga Claude AI di Malaysia?

Claude percuma untuk kegunaan asas. Claude Pro berharga US$20 sebulan, lebih kurang RM 82 pada kadar RM 4.09 setiap dolar pada 10 October 2026, atau US$17 sebulan jika bayar setahun. Claude Max berharga US$100 (RM 409) atau US$200 (RM 818) sebulan. Anthropic mengecaj dalam dolar AS, jadi bank anda menukar kadar dan mungkin menambah cukai perkhidmatan 8%.

How much is ChatGPT Plus in Malaysia?

OpenAI lists ChatGPT Plus at RM 99 a month in Malaysia, with the price shown tax inclusive. That is above the US list price of US$20, about RM 82, because the Malaysian price carries the 8% service tax and regional pricing. ChatGPT Go is RM 24 a month and ChatGPT Pro is RM 999 a month on the Malaysian listing.

Is ChatGPT Go available in Malaysia?

Yes. ChatGPT Go launched in Malaysia on 9 October 2025 at RM 38.99 a month and OpenAI cut it to RM 24 a month in February 2026. It gives about ten times the free tier message, upload and image limits, but not Deep Research, Sora or the Pro models.

Do Claude and ChatGPT charge SST in Malaysia?

Malaysia charges 8% service tax on imported digital services, and a foreign provider that sells more than RM 500,000 a year to Malaysians must register and charge it. OpenAI shows its Malaysian prices tax inclusive. Anthropic bills in US dollars and Malaysian press coverage reports the 8% added on top, so check your first receipt. A business cannot claim the tax back as an input credit, so treat it as part of the cost.

Can I pay for Claude or ChatGPT with a Malaysian debit card?

Usually yes, with a Visa or Mastercard debit card from a Malaysian bank, as long as online and overseas transactions are switched on in your banking app. A decline on the first attempt is almost always that switch, not the card. Credit cards work without extra steps. The App Store and Google Play also bill in ringgit, but the in-app price can differ from the web price.

Is the API cheaper than a subscription?

For a business process, usually yes. A WhatsApp chatbot handling 3,000 conversations a month costs about RM 86 in Claude Sonnet 5.5 tokens or under RM 10 on Haiku 5.5, which is less than one Pro seat. For a person who chats with the model all day, the subscription is cheaper, because the API bills every token and a heavy user can pass RM 400 a month.

Key takeaways

  • Claude Pro is about RM 82 a month and ChatGPT Plus is RM 99 in Malaysia, and the gap is tax and conversion, not features. ChatGPT Go at RM 24 is the cheapest paid plan either vendor sells here.
  • Budget 8 percent SST and a card margin on every US-dollar AI subscription, and you will not be surprised by the statement. OpenAI's ringgit prices already include the tax; Anthropic's dollar prices do not show it.
  • Count seats before features, because past three or four seats the subscriptions cost more than the automation would. Five Team seats are about RM 511 a month; a 3,000-conversation chatbot is about RM 86 in tokens.
  • Put a business process on the API, not on a seat, and the model cost becomes the smallest line in the project. In our deployments the token bill sits between RM 50 and RM 400 a month and the build is the real cost.
  • For Claude Code, start on Pro, move to Max when it becomes your main tool, and use an API key for anything unattended. Max 5x is RM 409 and Max 20x is RM 818, both monthly only.

Prices change often. Everything here reflects the vendor pages and Malaysian press coverage as at 10 October 2026, converted at RM 4.09 per US dollar. The vendors are the authority on their prices, not us; confirm on claude.com and openai.com before you pay.
